Silver Fir

Via Capovalle
Roncobello

Description

Abies alba Miller. Height 46 m, diameter 118 cm, crown 8 m, canopy 3 m. It is along the road to Mezzeno, at an altitude of 1200 m a.s.l., south-facing, ground slope 40%. Among the few conifers considered large by the census, the Aès stands out for the size of its trunk, which appears rather unusual in an area where forest exploitation has always been active because of vital necessity. Perhaps this survival is due to the quality of the wood, which is less valuable than that of the spruce.
