Description

Climbing from Cornamena, it’s well worth a short deviation of approximately 30 minutes to visit the Erratico Boulder (also known as Witch’s Boulder in popular legend). The boulder rests in an improbable position on a rocky outcrop of Esino (595 m). This mighty stone is made up of Lombardy Verrucano stone and was transported into its present position through various ice ages and by one of a possible two glaciers; one descending from Olmo and the other from Branzi. As these huge expanses of ice which reached almost to the peaks of the mountains and as far south as Zogno melted the boulder was ‘deposited’ in its present-day position.
