In the heart of the Brembana Valley, the Associazione Frutticoltori Agricoltori Valle Brembana (AFAVB) was founded in Moio de’ Calvi in 1992 with a clear goal: to bring life back to fallow land through the cultivation of apple trees. This project has not only made the land fertile, but has also united the community around a passion for fruit growing.Today, AFAVB members, more than 200 in number, manage plots ranging from 100 to 1,000 trees each, contributing their harvests to the association. Val Brembana apples have become a symbol of quality, the result of collective work that enhances the territory and its agricultural heritage.
The school camp
A distinctive element of this reality is the school camp “Apple Rainbow”, where trained technicians offer training and experimentation. Here, visitors can learn new growing techniques and learn about innovative apple varieties. This space is a meeting and growth point not only for members, but also for those who wish to get closer to the world of fruit growing.
Several varieties are grown: Golden, Gala, Red Delicious, Renetta and Topaz.
Tradition and innovation
The association has been able to combine tradition and innovation. It has reclaimed hundreds of abandoned lands, giving these places new life with the cultivation of fruit trees. In addition, it has introduced qualified technical advice, which is essential to improve agricultural practices and ensure high quality production.
The AFAVB has created a network of growers who, once isolated, can now rely on the strength of collaboration. This synergy has made it possible to spread the culture of fruit growing and make the apples of the Brembana Valley a true collective heritage.
The Apple Festival
Every year, around the middle of October, Moio de’ Calvi holds the Apple Festival, an event awaited by residents and tourists alike. During two days full of activities, you can participate in direct apple sales, tastings, themed menus and fragrant pancakes. There will also be refreshment areas and initiatives dedicated to the little ones. This is a perfect time to celebrate product excellence and experience the passion of fruit growers.
The event is made possible through collaboration with other local associations, such as the Cooperativa Terre d'Oltre Goggia, the Associazione Promozione Territorio - Moio de’ Calvi, and the municipality itself. Together, these realities demonstrate how it is possible to grow a community in harmony with its territory.
