This route starts from the charming medieval village of Cornello dei Tasso, descending along the characteristic cobbled ramp that leads to the traffic circle below, the junction point with the historic Via Mercatorum. From here, the route follows the valley floor, alternating sections of the bike path with provincial road 29 bis, in a pleasant and easily accessible environment.
The itinerary winds along the route of the historic Strada Priula, a 17th-century work that revolutionized the connections of the Brembana Valley thanks to daring interventions. It was precisely the bypassing of Cornello that allowed the village to preserve its medieval charm intact to this day.
The route is classified as tourist, 3.5 km long with an elevation gain of 70 meters, and is completed in about an hour, making it suitable even for families and casual walkers.
Historical Track
«From Cornello it descended with a considerable slope to the district of Orbrembo. The strada nova, on the other hand, entirely carved into the rock, after a large two-arched bridge over the Valle dei Mulini, bypassed Cornello, continuing in frieze with the Brembo by a fairly flat though winding road. The bypassing of Cornello was the main reason why this stupendous medieval village has retained its ancient splendor intact to this day. In the next section, at Orbrembo, Priuli accomplished another admirable work. The old Valle road ascended to a height of fifty meters and descended along a spur of rock located where the Parina Valley flows into the Brembo River. The strada nova, on the other hand, bypasses this ridge with a dry-stone wall hooked to the rock and suspended over the river. This was probably the place also called by Da Lezze the Gocchia (today the Goggia), a point of difficult transit where the river closed in a dangerous ravine.».
