From Rifugio Benigni (2,222 m), the path descends into the grassy basin below, then tackles a short but steep rocky gully, which should be traversed with care, especially if the ground is damp or weather conditions are unstable. Upon reaching the base, the trail continues along the mountainside and quickly leads to Passo di Salmurano (2,017 m), offering a striking view of the Pescegallo reservoir, nestled among the mountains.
Continue along the ridge to a wide plateau, where the path turns right and, contouring, reaches the vicinity of Monte Avaro, a junction with path 109. The trail continues to a pass, beyond which you descend into a valley, then turn left to cross the eastern slopes of Monte Ponteranica. This stretch offers wide views and an increasingly open environment, until you reach the Acquanera plateau (1,750 m), a peaceful place of great natural charm.
With a final gentle climb, you finally reach Rifugio Ca’ San Marco (1,829 m), situated in a historic location of extraordinary importance. For centuries, this place has been a fundamental passage point between Val Brembana and Valtellina, along the renowned Via Priula, an ancient commercial road commissioned in the late 16th century by the Republic of Venice. A stop that combines the great beauty of alpine landscapes with historical memory, making the experience even more intense and meaningful for the traveler.
