This itinerary is designed to offer an up-close discovery of Bergamasque culture and the most authentic forms of local rural architecture. Along the way, you'll encounter some of the most significant examples of ancient stone buildings, recognizable primarily by their characteristic roofs made with "piödè," large overlapping slabs that once ensured resistance and insulation for mountain huts. These structures, scattered irregularly on the valley slopes, represent a precious heritage, often sadly in a state of disrepair: for this reason, the Ecomuseum has initiated important recovery and enhancement projects.
The itinerary passes through charming villages and hamlets, such as Fraggio, Ca’ Corviglio, Piazza Mora, and Morteruccio, where you can still feel the atmosphere of ancient mountain communities.
The two municipal huts are particularly worth a visit: the Baita & Breakfast along the road to Salzana, with accommodation and an interactive museum installation dedicated to alpine life; and the Baita di Magrèra, which houses an interesting exhibition on traditional Bergamascan cheesemaking.
Of architectural interest are also the elegant roccoli towers, ancient structures once used for bird trapping with large nets (an activity no longer permitted today). Some well-preserved examples can be admired in the towns of San Bartolomeo and Reggetto, true jewels of pre-Alpine rural culture.
A journey that combines history, nature, and ancient traditions, offering an authentic immersion into the heart of mountain civilization.
