La Strada Taverna is an ancient path that connected Almenno San Salvatore to the upper districts of Val Brembilla, ascending the left bank of the Brembilla River.
The excursion starts from the Sedrina Bridges, near the historic “Cappello” bridge, following the CAI 592 - Via Meneghina trail marker. The mule track climbs with regular switchbacks to Ca’ Meneghina, then reaches the evocative stone walls of Ca’ Marta, imposing structures of uncertain origin.
Beyond the walls, you encounter the small church of San Gaetano and continue towards Pratonuovo and Carnit, areas of ancient prehistoric findings. The path then leads to the Maroncella district, with remains of a tavern, fountain, cheese dairy, and chestnut drying house.
In Tiglio, the view opens onto the plain; pastures lead to the hamlet of Sant’Antonio Abbandonato and to the sixteenth-century district of Castignola di Là, where an ancient tavern is still present.
Continuing, you reach Catremerio (988 m), one of the most charming villages on the itinerary, characterized by paved streets, stone walls, and wooden loggias.
The last stretch climbs between dry-stone walls and pastures to the village of Crosnello and the nearby Crosnello pass, dominated by the Santella del Viandante (Wayfarer's Shrine) and overlooking the Val Brembilla.
