The locality of Sussia is reachable starting from the Vetta locality, by taking the agro-silvo-pastoral road that gently climbs through woods and grassy slopes. Alternatively, it is possible to take a well-marked trail that starts a little lower down, near the Frasnito locality, which is more direct and immersed in nature.
Once you reach the distinctive little church of San Michele in Sussia, you can continue indifferent ly, choosing the path that branches off to the left or climbing to the right until you reach the birthplace of the mountain guide Antonio Baroni, a historic figure of the local mountains. From here, turn left again to take the path that leads to Monte Zucco. The route, very pleasant, crosses mixed woods and scenic ridge sections until you reach the Grosnello Chapel, a meeting point with the road coming from Catremerio (988 m).
Next to the small chapel is the entrance to the path that continues towards Pizzo Cerro: the ascent is regular and constant, with gentle slopes, except for the final section which becomes steeper and more challenging. The environment is particularly evocative: the path runs alongside the splendid Spadì roccolo, an ancient bird-trapping facility, now a precious example of rural architecture, and offers the opportunity to observe the mysterious “Laca del Roculì,” a deep natural cavity that extends underground for about 300 meters.
The summit of Pizzo Cerro (1285 m) finally offers a wide panorama of the Orobie Alps and the surrounding valleys, making this hike one of the most fascinating in the area due to its variety of environments, natural beauty, and historical-traditional testimonies.
