The Path of the Partisans of Cornalba is a deeply evocative loop itinerary that takes the visitor through the symbolic places of the Resistance and the events of November 25 and December 1, 1944. Starting from the parish church, next to the monument dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the Giustizia e Libertà - XXIV Maggio Brigade, the trail enters the heart of the historic village, where plaques, squares and streets tell of the village's unbreakable bond with its partisan memory. It crosses Piazza 25 Novembre, turns along Via Partigiani and touches the famous Ca’ Bianca, the former headquarters of the partisan command.
From here, take the dirt road that leads to the Pret Zambel shrine, a figure very dear to the inhabitants, and continue up into the woods along the historic trail that leads to the Alben pastures. Among huts, clearings and open views of the valley, the path reaches Cima Cornetti, where a large cross commemorates the Cornetti brothers who fell during the 1944 attack. Not far away is the Baita Cascinetto, site of the tragic December 1 roundup, during which Mario Ghirlandetti and three Russian partisans lost their lives.
The descent to Cornalba crosses the striking Cornabusa cave and continues through woods and slopes until it rejoins the village. Just before the village, two crosses commemorate Callisto Sguazzi “Peter” and Giuseppe Maffi, the last symbols of a trail that is at once nature, history and civil testimony. An intense and meaningful hike, inviting to discover the beauty of the mountains and to cherish the value of freedom.
