Starting from Selvino's Piazza del Comune, turn right onto Corso Monte Rosa. Shortly before the ice rink, turn right onto Via delle Betulle, following it straight until the hairpin turn where the dirt path begins on the right.
Later, a short but very tough climb awaits us, on which only the fittest bikers will be able to stay in the saddle. Once we reach the summit, we descend to the left, on the opposite side of the mountain. After various passages through the birch forest, we reach the houses of the village again. We then follow the road downhill until we return to Corso Monte Rosa.
From here we head towards Piazza Europa and face the tough climb towards Aviatico. Continuing straight ahead, we pass the cable car station for Monte Poieto and continue in the direction of the church of Aviatico. Shortly before the church, we turn right onto Via Monte Alben: after the last house, the road becomes a very steep paved path, which quickly leads us to the Forca di Aviatico, where there is a puddle of water.
We circle the pond and continue on the flat dirt road for about a kilometer. At the fork, turn right, following the signs for Cà de Spi. After passing a clearing, we continue straight ahead. At the next fork, we proceed towards the meadow and, after a few meters, turn right onto the path that climbs through the meadow: this section must be done with the bike in hand.
Back in the woods, we hit a dirt road. We turn right until we connect with another trail, where we turn left with a 180° turn, reaching the old ski lift, unused for decades. A little further on, we arrive at the restaurant and arrival point of the Monte Poieto cable car.
Descent
For the descent, two alternatives are possible:
Downhill course, reserved exclusively for those with suitable equipment.
Gravel descent, going down to the left of the cable car: the gravel path soon turns left and further down, at the fork, turn right towards the water pool and the cable car. Once at the pylon, turn left, passing to the right of the pool.
From here, the trail enters the thick of the woods, transforming into a fun single track that repeatedly intersects the downhill slope. Reaching a dirt road, we turn left and, at the next fork, we keep to the upper path on the left.
Once we reach the asphalt, we turn right at the junction until we intersect the SP36, which is the road we took on the way out. We then turn left and re-enter Selvino, retracing our initial path back to the starting point.
Note
It is possible to significantly reduce the difficulty of the climb up Mount Poieto by taking the cable car.
