Oneta ~ Cornello dei Tasso

From the church in Oneta, follow the clear signs indicating Cornello dei Tasso, taking an ancient path that was part of the historic Via Mercatorum, the medieval artery that connected the plains to the alpine valleys, allowing the passage of merchants, pilgrims and wayfarers. This path, rich in history and charm, still retains the atmosphere of times past, with original stone sections and dry stone walls that tell of centuries of transit and trade.

In about twenty minutes you reach the small church of Sant'Anna, located halfway along the trail: a cozy place, ideal for a short stop. From here the trail continues downhill, plunging into the picturesque Valley of the Mills, so called because of the once numerous presence of water mills that harnessed the energy of mountain streams.

Amidst forests, ancient rural artifacts and breathtaking views of the valley, the trail finally leads to the medieval village of Cornello dei Tasso, one of the most important settlements of the Via Mercatorum and home of the Tasso family, considered the origin of the modern European postal service. Here time seems to stand still amid arcades, cobblestones and stone houses, offering an authentic journey through the history of the Brembana Valley.
