The Maglio, the Harbour and the Suspension Bridge

The Maglio is located on the Imagna stream, at the foot of the castle, and is one of the oldest buildings in the area. It once forged the weapons of the Most Serene Republic of Venice and, until a few decades ago, even more humble and everyday tools. Even today it retains a special charm that tells of its long history. Not far away is the harbor, where a ferry connected the two banks of the river and where, until the early twentieth century, lumber from the valley was flowed. In 1878, at the behest of Vincenzo Beltrami, the owner of the castle, a new bridge inspired by Tibetan bridges was built: the famous “dancing bridge,” one of the earliest nineteenth-century examples of a suspended structure with supporting ropes. At 75 meters long, the bridge is still walkable today and its characteristic rocking motion is reminiscent of that of the ancient ferry. Crossing it leads to the other side of the Brembo, where you can relax on the “Clanezzo Beach” or continue your walk along the river.
