Baschenis Museum

The new Baschenis Museum in Santa Brigida opens its doors as an exhibition center dedicated to the famous dynasty of fresco painters originally from the Averara Valley and the other artists from the valleys of Alta Brembana who left indelible traces in churches, palaces and places of worship between Bergamo, the valleys of Trentino and beyond.
A place designed to restore dignity and visibility to a widespread artistic heritage, bringing attention back to the context of origin of masters who told the story of faith and Alpine life through colors, frescoes and symbols.
The museum was created within the initiative “Beni in rete,” promoted by Altobrembo (leader of the project Le Terre dei Baschenis) with the contribution of Fondazione Cariplo. The entire project aims to enhance the value of three structures with a strong cultural value, which together make up a true diffuse museum of the Upper Brembana Valley: the Ethnographic Museum of Valtorta, the Antica Segheria Pianetti of Olmo al Brembo and the new Baschenis Museum of Santa Brigida.
Those who visit the museum ideally find themselves at the beginning of a journey through the history of these artists and their works, which are scattered throughout the territory in churches, oratories and places that still hold their presence.
The museum itinerary proposes a reinterpretation of the permanent ethnographic collection, enriched with multimedia content, digital installations and new information panels that facilitate discovery and exploration. The result is a museum that interweaves memory and innovation, in which technology becomes a tool to learn about, enhance and pass on the culture, knowledge and art of the people who inhabited these lands.
