Below the Parish Church is the Scurolo, or crypt, which is accessed by descending a wide staircase. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes and is still used, especially in the winter months, due to its more collected but still sufficient size to accommodate the faithful at Sunday celebrations.
Inside is a historical plaque proudly claiming the Brembillesi's loyalty to Milan and their traditional impatience with Venice. It recalls the period of struggles between the Guelphs and Ghibellines, when Brembilla, on the Ghibelline side, pitted itself against the neighboring Guelph centers of Zogno and San Giovanni Bianco, just as the noble Suardi and Colleoni families faced each other in Bergamo.
Seeking powerful alliances, the Brembillese sided with the Viscontis of Milan. Instead, the arrival of Venetian rule marked a difficult period for Brembilla, remembered by local tradition as particularly dramatic.
