Opened in 2009, it is the first building recovered by the Ecomuseum and is a unique example of cultural heritage recovery, enhancement of local traditions and functional conversion for sustainable tourism.
La Chalet, nestled in the greenery of the Taleggio Valley, is located only 500 meters from the center of Sottochiesa (hamlet of Taleggio) and can be easily reached by taking the mule track directed to the Salzana Sanctuary.
The building shows the main typological characteristics of the rural dwellings used in the past for pasturing: the load-bearing structure of the roof made of wooden beams, crossed in an “X” shape to support the enormous weight of the piöde (local stones) used for the roofing; the very sloping pitches; and the “T” shaped barn door to allow the passage of men with their panniers on their shoulders but not of animals.
Careful restoration made it possible to carve out two areas with different destinations: the ecomuseum station, located in the barn, houses the multimedia installation “In Vaccanza: accelerated theatrical course to learn, understand and apply the art of the bergamini of the Taleggio valley.”.
Produced by Koinè Sustainable Theater, “In VaCcanza” is a multisensory journey into the life of herdsmen in which they “taste” all the elements necessary to produce good alpine milk.
The “Chalet & Breakfast” is the accommodation made out of the part of the chalet intended for the men: it consists of a comfortable double room (with the possibility of a third bed), two bathrooms, a wellness area with an infrared sauna, and a small equipped kitchen.
