Nature, in these places, continues to provide simple but true emotions. This Dolomite paradise is home to the Primula Albenensis along the ramparts that connect the Alben ridges to the gentle, green slopes of the Rice Valley. This new species is exclusive to Mount Alben, one of the alpine sectors richest in endemic species, i.e., exclusive to a limited area, testifying to the naturalistic richness of the Bergamo mountains.
In a decidedly austere and selective environment, the endemic species of red primrose, which hardly finds competition in the species, makes a fine show. Every year in May-June, groups of speleologists and botanical experts visit this timeless beauty.
What is most striking is the flourish-white appearance of the whole plant, as if it were contaminated by a sustained “hand-to-hand” struggle with its host wall. Primula dell'Alben was recognized as a species only in 1993 by E. Banfi and F. Ferlinghetti despite numerous visits by botanists from Bergamo and abroad in the 19th and 20th centuries.
