Mount Arera

Pizzo Arera, located between Val Brembana and Val Seriana, reaches 2,512 meters and is one of the best vantage points on the Orobie, with views ranging from Presolana to Legnone. The hike starts from Zambla Alta and climbs up to Capanna 2000 along a comfortable cobblestone road, also suitable for families, who can continue here if they wish with the Sentiero dei Fiori loop. From Capanna 2000 the path becomes steeper: first among meadows, then among rocks, following signs and cairns that guide to the normal route. Just below the summit there is a short equipped section, simple and not exposed, that leads to the summit. The return to the refuge offers an excellent opportunity for rest and refreshment with a view. The approach by car is easy, with paid parking at Alpe Arera or, alternatively, further down via Plassa, adding elevation gain to the route. To shorten the route, it is possible to ascend directly to Capanna 2000 via the steeper but quicker trail 222.

The mountain is also accessible in winter, but only to experienced hikers with appropriate equipment; during the winter season it is also advisable to contact the huts in advance to check if they are open.
