Gardati location and fresco

In the locality of Gardati, a corner of the Serina Valley extraordinary for its history and environment. The buildings are situated on a wide moor crossed by a secondary route of the Via Mercatorum. Here there is a large residence with wide staircase that is the site of an ancient guesthouse, a fountain with wash-house and a stable with an admirable fresco entitled “There Stood the Avi”. The main protagonist of this fresco is St. Sebastian depicted at the moment of martyrdom with numerous arrows in his body. St. Sebastian was a Roman soldier who was martyred for upholding the Christian faith; venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Christian Church, he is the object of a very ancient and widespread cult in all Christian churches.
