La San Pellegrino Terme funicular It is one of the most fascinating elements of the historical and tourist heritage of the Brembana Valley, capable of telling the story of an era when thermal tourism and elite holidays transformed the area into an internationally recognized destination.
Located in the heart of San Pellegrino Terme, the funicular was built in the early twentieth century to connect the spa town with the hilly areas above, facilitating the movement of guests, vacationers, and staff between accommodation facilities and panoramic areas. In those years, the town was experiencing its period of greatest splendor thanks to the development of the thermal baths and the presence of refined tourism, attracted by the mineral waters and the Art Nouveau architecture that still characterizes the town today.
From a historical perspective, the funicular is a classic example of “early 20th-century” tourist infrastructure, conceived not just as a means of transport, but as the journey experience itself: ascending slowly along the slope meant admiring the valley, tree-lined avenues, and elegant thermal buildings from above.
