Fraggio

Urbanistic jewel now uninhabited, a typical mountain village. An enchanted place that deserves a visit: it seems to be out of this world, catapulted back in time, since to get here you have to walk along a mule track that climbs in half an hour from Pizzino. Fraggio is a typical example of the minor architecture that spread through the isolated valleys of Bergamo and for this reason is different from what can be found throughout the Alps; it is also an important testimony to the rural civilization of our country. Fraggio was very old and important is deduced from the fact that there was a bread bakery, a tavern with tobacco shop, and a courthouse called the Praetorium with associated underground prisons measuring one meter by two meters and each closed by a wrought-iron gate. The praetorium decorated with figures and inscriptions in Latin, was also furnished with walnut benches. The 15th-century Oratory of St. Lawrence was decorated with frescoes now mostly lost except for parts of the Martyrdom of St. Lawrence.
