Bracca Parish Church

In addition to the splendid wooden works and altarpieces by renowned local artists that can be admired, the parish also boasted a precious silver-gilt chalice made by Pandolfo Lorenzoni da Vertova in 1448. It is a Gothic-style chalice with tracery and very fine enamels; set in the polylobed pedestal are three enamel panels, depicting the Crucifix, the Virgin and St. John. In the stem, just below the knot, is the artist's signature. The node is in the shape of a hexagonal temple with pinnacles, spires, Gothic tracery and twisted columns depicting six mullioned windows. It is still unclear how the chalice reached Bracca.
In 1886 the Superintendency of Fine Arts included it in the national list of works of art, and in 1956 it was exhibited in The Hague as an example of Bergamo's goldsmith art. Today it is kept in the museum Treasure of Bergamo Cathedral and is returned to the community only on occasions of solemn Eucharistic celebrations.
